On the 12th and 13th August, we welcomed Paul Kelly and two groups of young wheelchair football players, accompanied by their parents and carers, onto the boat.

Paul is the Disability Coordinator for ‘City in the Community’, the organisation formed in 1986 to forge links between Manchester City Football Club and the local community.

Paul had booked two morning cruises and for a few of the young boys and girls it was an early start as some had to travel from Rochdale, Knutsford and near Liverpool. Although the weather on the 13th was cloudy, on the 12 it was beautiful and the trip couldn’t have been better. Everyone enjoyed cruising along the peaceful Macclesfield Canal, noting the views, spotting the wildlife and feeding the ducks.
All said that they had a great time and we are grateful for the raffle tickets they bought and the additional donations they made. One of the children’s mothers even posted her appreciation on our FaceBook page: “Fantastic trip on this canal boat. Thank you to all the crew. We loved it x”.
Afterwards, Paul Kelly was buzzing with enthusiasm for the boat and promised some match day tickets as a prize for our forthcoming raffle. Paul and some of the children are featured on this Barclays YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Wvw7KdTL5o
